ROLE OF RURAL MICRO ENTERPRISES IN CREATING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY IN BANGLADESH

This study attempts to provide the assessment of the role of rural micro enterprises in crating different types of employment opportunities in Bangladesh. It covers three types of employment: wage employment, self-employment and employment in terms of opportunity cost. Also, it explores the features of different types of employment created by micro enterprises. Using two stage sampling design, a sample of 180 rural micro enterprises has been selected. Following PPS sampling method, twenty villages have been selected at first stage. Then from each of the selected villages, nine micro enterprises have been selected by systematic sampling method. The study findings provide evidences to conclude that the rural micro enterprises have potential role in creating employment opportunities in terms of all three types of employment. The study recommends policy makers from government and non-government ends to come forward in favour of rural micro enterprises to accelerate employment in non-agricultural sectors that rapidly advance rural economy.
